Mai Kabbani

Mai is currently finishing her final dissertation of a Doctorate Degree in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling from the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London, UK. Mai graduated with a BA in Psychology and a MA in Sociology/Anthropology focusing on Medical Anthropology from the American University in Cairo.

 

She is well trained in psycho-oncology, counselling people with cancer and their families during different stages of the illness both in private and hospital settings. Her role involved psycho-education about the illness, side effects also offering family support, supportive therapy, end of life communication, palliative care for people with terminal illnesses, grief therapy, and relaxation/visualization techniques.

 

Mai currently works in private practice with a wide range of client issues such as: chronic and life-threatening illnesses, anxiety, anger, depression, grief, interpersonal issues, emotional eating, family issues, mothering struggles and other life issues. Another area of expertise for Mai is sports counselling, as she helps professional athletes of various ages improve their focus, self-esteem and manage their performance-related anxiety.

 

Mai follows an eclectic non-directive client-centered approach that allows clients to understand the meaning of their experiences and help gain an awareness of the challenges and struggles they pass through. Through this awareness, clients may have a better knowledge of their way of being and how it has been functional to them obstructing them from living authentically. Through this process, clients become more empowered to move towards their desired path.
